| Early in the fall semester of 2008, there were frequent tennis clinics that NIU's varsity team would hold. It was at one of these clinics that brought Andrew, Andy, Brian, and Mike to meet. At the time, starting a tennis club, "was a good idea" and we had no idea it would culminate into the group it is today. We organized our first practice, and it was at Anderson courts with 6 people: Greg, James, Brian, Mike, Andy, and Andrew. With the help of Varsity tennis team coach Pawel Gadjzik and Steve Wise from the USTA Midwest Section, we organized an informational meeting for anyone interested in joining the club, and we had a very good showing. It was clear after the meeting that there was a strong tennis community here at NIU. We soon developed a practice schedule, and had our first match against Marquette. Although we didn't win many games that first match, we bonded as a group immediately and have been practicing and playing ever since. We'd like to thank all those who have made this club possible: Andy, Mike, Brian, Naveed, James, Esther, Oren, Abby, Rosa, James, Coach Pawel, Steve Wise, Greg, Kelly, Karoline, Nav, Brittany, Chan, Kuang, JB, and Dapo. |
