| The University of New Hampshire Club Tennis Team was formed in the fall of 2006 after the varsity men's and women's tennis teams were cut by the school's athletic department. The five remaining women and one remaining man from the varsity team decided a club team should be formed so they could continue playing. The first year, 2006-2007, was spent playing other varsity teams and some club teams from the USTA New England section. Over the summer of 2007, the captains from the team joined with the USTA to start creating a club tennis league for New England. There was a lot of interest in the area, so starting in the 2007-2008 season, a schedule was set up with dual matches and tournaments for the club teams. The men's and women's teams practice and travel together and really function as one big team. They practice five days a week, year round, and try to have matches or tournaments on as many weekends as possible. While still very new, UNH's men's and women's tennis teams are growing and developing quickly and have a great future to look forward to. |
