The USTA Tennis On Campus Eastern Championship is a fun and competitive event for collegiate club and intramural tennis teams from across the USTA Eastern section. The first event took place in 2005 in New Jersey with only 5 teams from 3 unique schools and has since grown! The Championship, which uses the exciting, dynamic, and co-ed World Team Tennis format, is the conclusion to the year-long Eastern Tennis On Campus Series. Finalists are granted an automatic bid to the USTA Tennis On Campus National Championship along with a stipend.
The USTA Eastern Tennis On Campus Series enjoyed its first full year of competition during the 2007-2008 academic year. The series includes team play on college and university campuses throughout our section, which is comprised of New York, Northern New Jersey and Greenwich, Connecticut. The program features several student run tournaments hosted throughout the year during which teams from the section play, complete, have fun and make new friends to enhance their college experience. In addition, there are opportunities to compete with teams from other sections to enhance the overall experience and to provide additional competitive options. This program is ideal for any college students looking to get involved in a recreational tennis opportunity – and have fun!
The purpose of this grant is to help new Tennis On Campus programs in the Eastern Section start up a program on their college campus. The resources provided are to be used to start, develop, expand, promote and sustain a new Tennis On Campus co-ed league or sport club.
