| The USTA Campus Championship - New England is a fun and competitive event for collegiate club and intramural tennis teams from across the USTA New England section. The first championship took place in 2007 with over 100 students on 12 teams from 7 schools. The tournament uses the co-ed World TeamTennis format and the winning team is granted an automatic bid to the USTA National Campus Championship. They receive a USTA New England Campus Championship shirt as well as a stipend to attend the National Championship. | The USTA Campus Championship – New England was held on Saturday, Feb. 20 at Cedardale Health and Fitness. Fourteen teams attended and more than 120 students participated in the annual event. Teams played in a round robin that featured four pools, then the winner from each pool advanced to the semifinals. Boston College, Dartmouth, Northeastern, and Tufts played close matches in the semifinals, with BC and Dartmouth winning to move on to the finals. Dartmouth clinched the title with wins in men’s and women’s doubles and women’s singles for a final score of 26-18. Northeastern was able to capture third place by beating Tufts, 28-18. Dartmouth, Boston College, and Northeastern will all move on to the 2010 USTA National Championship in Surprise, Ariz. on April 15-17. |
