| Several of the top collegiate, coed club tennis teams descended upon Las Cruces, N.M. on Valentine's Day weekend for the USTA Campus Championship - Southwest, held at the New Mexico State Tennis Center, with the University of Arizona Club Tennis Team emerging as the champion. The Wildcats, bridesmaids at last year's Section Championship to rival Arizona State University, earned sweet redemption this year, beating all comers, including a 26-21 win over New Mexico in the final to claim the 2010 USTA Campus Championship - Southwest. University of Texas at El Paso edged out 2009 champion, Arizona State, for third place, 26-25. Seven colleges comprised 12 total teams that competed in this year's third annual section championship. The event has grown slowly, but steadily, with three schools the first year, five last year, and seven in 2010. Both Northern Arizona University and New Mexico Tech were first-year competitors. Both the University of Arizona and University of New Mexico will receive automatic bids to the 2010 USTA National Campus Championship. |
