| The USTA Tennis On Campus Northern California Championship is a fun and competitive event for collegiate club tennis and intramural tennis teams from across the USTA Northern California section. The first event took place in 2003 with 7 teams from 5 schools; in 2011, 21 teams from 10 unique schools participated. The Championship uses the exciting, dynamic, and co-ed World TeamTennis format. Winning teams are granted automatic bids to the USTA Tennis On Campus National Championship. Twenty-four teams competed from eleven schools in the USTA Tennis On Campus Northern California Championship which took place at Stanford University. The final was an epic battle between the UC Berkeley Gold Team and the Stanford Axe Team. In the end, UC Berkeley won 23-22. Since UC Berkeley is the defending National Champions, they will automatically advance to the 2013 USTA Tennis On Campus National Championship taking place April 11-13 in Surprise, AZ. Joining UC Berkeley from the Northern California Section will be Stanford University, UC Davis and St. Mary's College. |
