USTA Tennis On Campus Southern Championship
The USTA Tennis On Campus Southern Championship is a fun, competitive and exciting event for collegiate tennis club teams from across the USTA Southern Section. The first event took place in 2005 with only 7 teams from 6 schools and has grown into a true championship tournament!  Top placing teams at the USTA Tennis On Campus Southern Championship are granted automatic bids to the USTA Tennis On Campus National  Championship and received a stipend from the USTA Southern Section to attend the National Championship. In addition, the USTA Southern Section also gave travel stipends to the other teams from the South that competed at the National event

2014 USTA Tennis On Campus Southern Championship Recap

The championship consisted of 32 colleges and universities, with numerous larger schools sending A, B and C teams. Coed teams compete on five courts using World Team Tennis Collegiate rules. The team with the most games won is the winner of the match. None of the players can currently be on the varsity team and only one can be a former varsity player.

Matches were played at three sites: Yarbrough Tennis Center (headquarters), the intramural/students courts on the Auburn campus and the Auburn Marriott Opelika Hotel & Conference Center at Grand National.

This year’s event drew the top teams from throughout the section’s nine states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Additionally, Texas A&M-Texarkana, which is in the Southern Section, played.

In the end, it was Auburn University who defeated the University of South Carolina 22-15.  Auburn and South Carolina secured their bids to Nationals in April & will be joined by the 2013 National Champions from the University of Georgia as well as NC State, UNC-Chapel Hill, Elon, Georgia Tech and LSU.
