Little Rock, Ark.

The USTA announced today that its Tennis On Campus program will host the inaugural Fall Invitational at the Burns Park Tennis Center in North Little Rock, Ark., October 22-24. The Tennis On Campus Fall Invitational will serve as the kick-off event of the Tennis On Campus season which will culminate next April with the 2011 USTA Tennis On Campus National Championship in Cary, N.C.

This will mark the first time that the USTA Tennis On Campus program has held a season-opening event. To date, twenty teams from across the country have registered for this inaugural event, almost double the number of schools that participated in the first USTA National Campus Championship in 2000, which hosted 10 teams from six schools.

The USTA’s Tennis On Campus program is designed to provide college students with opportunities for team camaraderie, social networking, and spirited competition through tennis without the rigors of a varsity program. Perfect for athletes who have chosen not to make the jump from high school to college varsity, Tennis On Campus offers co-ed team-based play, regional and national championship competition, and helps students maintain active and healthy lifestyles through their college years. Currently, the program is offered on over 500 college campuses, and services more than 30,000 students.

“We are very excited to introduce a kick-off event for the Tennis On Campus season,” said Glenn Arrington, National Manager, USTA Tennis On Campus. “The Tennis On Campus Fall Invitational will serve as an exciting way for teams from all over the country to come together for a weekend of fun and competition, and will allow players new to the Tennis On Campus program to experience the camaraderie of a national competition without having to wait until the end of the school year.”
