UNC for Summer Checklist
It's never too early to start planning for the upcoming season.

Now that summer vacation is here, most students are thinking about the beach, league tennis or finding a job.  But don’t forget about your club tennis team.  It’s never too early to start planning for the upcoming season.  Here are some things you will want to take into consideration over the summer so that you can start off the year in top form:

¨ End of Season Party
¨ Email Exchange
¨ Budget
¨ Fundraising Plan
¨ Recruiting / Marketing Plan
¨ Match Schedule & Trips
¨ Practice Schedule & Courts
¨ Keep Playing

þ End of Season Party
There’s never been a better time to get together than at the end of the season to celebrate successes.  Have an informal pizza party or other friendly gathering to recap the season, elect officers & discuss what worked well or what needs improvement for next year. It’s everyone’s responsibility to make sure that all the necessary information & assignments are handed down from one season to the next, so share your knowledge so that everyone is on the same page.
þ Email Exchange
Do you have contact information for all members of the team?  It’s important that an email list be sent to all members so that everyone can keep in touch over the summer.  Who knows, maybe a few members live near each other & can get together to play – or can join a local league team.
þ Budget
Every successful club team needs a budget or else there would be no team uniforms, trips, socials, etc.  A budget is necessary for everyday things like court time and balls as well as unexpected items that may arise.  What was this year like?  If it was good for the team then a similar budget should be set for the upcoming year.
þ Fundraising Plan
Have you looked at the budget & realized that you need some financial assistance?  Don’t worry - your friends at Tennis On Campus can help you get your fundraising in order.  Be sure to check out our resources page for fundraising ideas.
þ Recruiting / Marketing Plan
Do you have a plan for growing your team & getting more visibility?    Sometimes all it takes is networking and spreading the word, but sometimes it takes more than that.  We’ve got you covered – on our resources page you will find tips for attracting new players and other helpful hints.  You can also visit our customizable marketing site where you can create posters, flyers or post cards, access banner & newspaper ads and more.  Use our templates to give a professional look to your message.
þ Match Schedule & Trips
Of course planning ahead for matches is easier than worrying about them at the last minute.  Knowing about an event early, makes it easier to plan ahead & budget for it.  Yes, things do come up, but since we’re already populating our calendar with events for the 2015 / 2016 season, you should too.  We’ll be adding dates all summer & throughout next season, so be sure to check back often.
þ Practice Schedule & Court Time - PLAN AHEAD
Connect with the varsity tennis coach, recreational sport director, park & recreation department or local club regarding court availability.  If you know ahead of time when your team will be practicing, it makes it easy to either shop around for the best deal.  Book now before rates increase!  If you can get your courts reserved for the upcoming season, you’ll be well ahead of the curve & that’ll be one less thing to worry about later.
þ Keep Playing
Just because the Tennis On Campus season is over, that doesn't mean your time on the court has to come to an end too.  There are so many things you can do to stay involved & keep playing.
