Get in Shape for Next Season - Focus on Movement

With the 2013/2014 Tennis On Campus season at an end, it might be hard to start thinking about next season. Do you want to stay in shape or get into better shape this summer but don't know where to start? Over the next couple months, we are going to examine some key areas as well as some activities you can try.

Focus on Movement:
Tennis is an active sport that helps burn calories, reduce blood pressure and relieve stress.  It requires speed, strength and agility.  If you are looking for ways to get yourself moving, you might consider the following:

Zumba (

Zumba Fitness® is the only Latin-inspired dance-fitness program that blends red-hot international music, created by Grammy Award-winning producers, and contagious steps to form a "fitness-party" that is downright addictive.  Since its inception in 2001, the Zumba program has grown to become the world's largest – and most successful – dance-fitness program with more than 12 million people of all shapes, sizes and ages taking weekly Zumba classes in over 110,000 locations across more than 125 countries.

Are you ready to party yourself into shape? That’s exactly what the Zumba® program is all about. It’s an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness-party™ that’s moving millions of people toward joy and health.

Cardio Tennis (

Cardio Tennis is a high energy fitness activity that combines the best features of the sport of tennis with cardiovascular exercise, delivering the ultimate, full body, calorie burning aerobic workout. It is a very social and fun class for players of all ability levels taught by a tennis teaching professional. If you are an experienced high level tennis player it is the best way to train for tennis. Most classes have mixed ability and some facilities offer classes which are more specific to ability/fitness level. However, regardless of ability or fitness level the tennis professional is trained to provide the ultimate workout for each person.

Cardio Tennis is a great and healthy workout for people of all ages and abilities!

However you choose to get yourself moving, the most import thing is that you have fun and stick with it!
