USTA Tennis On Campus Midwest Championship

There were 32 teams representing 30 Universities across the Midwest Section; approximately 235 players.

1^st place Wisconsin A (This is the Badgers’ 4th time as a 1^st place win)
2^nd Place Michigan State (Spartans’ first time ever in top four)
3^rd place Marquette Univ. (Golden Eagles’ first time ever in top four)
4^th Place Univ. of Cincinnati (first time ever to go to nationals for the Bearcats!)
5^th place Purdue University (first time ever to go to nationals for the Boilermakers!)

Congratulations to the University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana) Club Team as they won the Club Team of the Year Award! They will receive a bid to nationals! They will represent the Midwest as the nomination for National Club Team of the year! Special note: Illinois’ A and B teams played each other (at 8:00AM, after learning the night before they were going to nationals because of the bid) in the back draw and Illinois A won for bragging rights.! Illinois A took 11^th place in the tournament. Andrew Green and Michael Lynch demonstrate great leadership and there is a good energy on this Illini team.

Congratulations to Matt Ship, UW Club President, who received the Club Team of the Year award on Friday night! Matt will travel with his Wisconsin team to Cary, NC and be in the running for the National Club Leader of the Year.
