2014 University of Tennessee Volunteer Classic Recap

By: UTK Club Tennis

Over the weekend, the University of Tennessee Club Tennis Team hosted its second annual invitational - The Volunteer Classic.  It was a great warm-up event for the TOC Southern Championship, which will kick-off this Friday.

Last year, more than twenty teams came out to represent for their schools. But this year, twenty-nine teams participated!

Although the tournament went great, the weather wasn’t in much of our favor. Saturday’s play began at 10 A.M. due to frigid temperatures at a low of 25 degrees Fahrenheit and a high of 36 degrees. Later Saturday night, snow accumulated to almost one inch. Sunday’s play was also pushed back an hour due to the weather but it warmed up throughout the day.

This year’s 2014 winners of the Volunteer Classic are Auburn University who also beat Tennessee’s own club team in the semi-finals, 24-12. In the final, Auburn went on to defeat Clemson’s A team, 25-19.

Congratulations to Auburn University!  And thanks to everyone who came out to play.
