Started in the fall of 2005 by six enthusiastic tennis friends, the Stony Brook University Tennis Club was a young and extremely fast growing club. Today, the club has achieved an even balance of competition, recreation, and social networking. It has become a directory for over 200 members all across the Stony Brook University campus to meet other players.
Our tennis club holds general meetings twice a week where free beginner and intermediate lessons are provided by volunteer student coaches. In order to encourage some competition for our recreational players, we hold three club tournaments each semester. We also help develop competitive players by scheduling practices and training in order to prepare for future intercollegiate tournaments.
We strive to spread the love of tennis across our community and campus!
-Hosted our first home tournament with Columbia and Rutgers University
-Placed second at the Eastern Championships @ Syracuse, NY.
-Received a bid to USTA TOC National ChampionshipsThe Stony Brook University Tennis Club works in conjunction with the Varsity Team with hopes of boosting up viewership rates at home matches. The Varsity Team has provided tennis balls, clinics, and even instruction for the club.
Our Tennis Club also made a trip out to Cunningham Sports Center in Fresh Meadows, NY in Fall 2011 to play against their junior tournament team. In this community outreach, our club team demonstrated to the juniors that club tennis could be just as serious, structured, and competitive as varsity tennis.
Our Tennis Club aims to participate in at least one community service event each semester. The upcoming event is Relay for Life, an event sponsored by the American Cancer Society, in April 2012.
